Natcon 2014 almost there

Well Natcon 2014 in Christchurch is only a few weeks away Looking forward to the trip down Going to run with my soviet Heavy assault gun company. I have everything but the OT-34's painted I should get them in the post in the next day or so. I'm hoping this army is as good at anti infantry as it should be at anti tank.

My self and a friend are flying down together on the 17th of April and back on the 21st we will be playing 8 games over 3 days. I'm hoping with this army it will be good and just forcing its way up one flank with the 85mm covering the rear for AA fire and objectives the recon will cover any ambush spots for the ISU assault guns and the flame tanks toasting any one on the objective while being covered by the ISU guns. Only thing that bothers me if i have to defend with reserves having at least half platoons off means 3 platoons off and only 2 on but being a tank army i'm hoping ill be attacking most of the time.

Valleycon 2014 games

  • Game 1 was a nice easy Free for all vs Matt Martin who was using Trained Fallschirmjägerkompanie very simular to mine but he had panthers instead of stugs It was a close fought game but ended out being a 5-2 win
  • Game 2 was No retreat vs Ken Camel i was defending against his KG Knaust which was Pz3's and 4's with heavy artillery and infantry support i hung on for another 5-2 win. Although i was starting to see what my army was lacking which as infantry based AT only having 1 Pnzfaust in each squad was hard to defend against tank assaults i was very lucky for the dice to fall my way in 2 assaults.
  • Game 3 was Breakthrough vs Russel Briant He was using a Stug Battery supported by 2cm AA flak battery, Pioneers and a King tiger. Again in this game i was very lucky some dice went my way as his StuH42's didn't do much hitting meaning i still got saves. The terrain was in my favour with lots of buildings helping my defence. i ground out a 4-3 win in this one very close game.
  • Game 4 was Dust up vs Benjamin Lindsay He was also a Stug battery supported by FlaK36 battery 105mm artillery and a small recon platoon. This game is where it all started going downhill for me again the lack of infantry anti tank meant i couldn't force his tanks away from an objective and the game ground down to a 3-2 draw in his favour close game but we timed out in the end.
  • Game 5 was fighting withdrawal vs Cameron Wansbrough using a Tiger 1 company backed up by recon rocket artillery and Air support. I hadn't taken any AA thinking in a 1350pts game no one would take aircraft and i think only 2 people did. With my Pak40's the only thing with even a chance of punching through his thick armour i knew i was up against it i just dug in kept my head down and tried my best to weather the storm in the end it was a heavy 6- l loss all i killed was 1 tiger and 2 recon half tracks game was a good challenge.

I think next time i would of gone with trained FJ troops so i can equip everyone with Pnzfausts and maybe some AA or 105mm artillery although my heavy mortars couldn't smoke in a few games did kill quite a bit. After finishing 1st Equal on day one 7th in the end wasn't too bad considering where i have finished in the last 2 valleycons. Oh well next event for me is Natcon in Christchurch cya there.

Valleycon 2014

Well Valleycon is over for another year Thanks to Nick for running it. It was a market garden themed event I thing someone had forgotten to tell the allies that though as out of the 13 Players that where there only 2 where allied. I ended up finishing 7th in the end.
I used a list out of the Bridge by Bridge book and took Fearless Veteran Fallschirmjager.

X-Wing minitures game

Ive had a go at the X-Wing table top game and must say i quite enjoy it has a cleaver turn based real time rule set which can make for an interesting game.
Michael and my self were playing ive been using his game set although ive been buying some ships.
So far have a B-wing, A-wing, Millenium falcon, and a HWK-290. There is a Star trek version of this game call Attack wing which i would also like to get.

From the modeling desk

Well just about finish my soviets for flames of war and now they update red bear meaning i now have an extra 225pts to spend so a platoon of 5 T-34s i think will do nicely to help support the ISU assault guns. I like the red bear updates making the soviets more competitive i think although i last played soviets about 7 years ago under V1 rules i wish i never got rid of them lol. I'm glad the katyusha came down in points i really like the models but 350pts+ for the stronger ones just seemed over priced that's probably why I've never seen them used in any events I've been to so far.

My recently finished soviet scouts

Just need to get 4 more T-34s and 1 more ISU-152 and 2 37mm AA guns to go this the rocket artillery and my new 1750pts army will be ready for its first game.
